Remove ads in WLM 9

I hate ads on my screen, and recently I was unable to remove the ads on my Windows Live Messenger (WLM）which give me a headache when looking at it.

Normally I would use A-patch to patch my messenger but the newest build seen to be broke. WLM faces error after patch so I decided to find the other ways. =/

Finally here is the way I found. =D
This is done by editing the host address of WLM ads.

Ugly huh ？

First, go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and search for a file name "Hosts"

You might need to take control of the file.

Open the file with notepad, and add in a line "0.0.0.0 rad.msn.com" as shown.




Save it and done.

Bye bye, ads !

I have pretty free recently, so I decided to mod my foobar2k again ! After searching around at devintart.com. I found an old (?) theme ? I said old because the component it need was out-dated. Nevermind, it still look nice.

Surf without Ads Using Firefox !

Nowadays, lot of sites have advertisements on their pages for money. Some of them floating around our screen blocking our content and some contain those adults ads that hurt our kids.
So now, we can block them all by using Firefox and its addon - Adblock Plus !

But, remember to block only those big and flashy ads that hinder your surfing. Some sites like me need to have some supports too ! =D


First, get yourself a Firefox browser. Open it, and click on Tools > Add-ons.

A window will pop out, and click on Gets Add-ons and search for Adblock Plus.

Look on the results, and select Add to Firefox...



After that, click on Install.



After installation finish, restart Firefox and it is ready to go. Let have some simple blocking. =)

Oh...ads !

Select Adblock Frame or Adblock Image. This time I choose Adblock Frame.

Pop out and Add filter.

Woot ! No more ads !

XWindows Dock

Here is another dock that has the stacking folder feature - XWindows Dock ! Its features are rich and full with many eye-candy effect.

But, to have that you must pay more, it eat more memory compared to RocketDock and not suitable for those low-end machine. Besides that, I cant find any setting to adjust the dock position, which mean it only stay at the bottom center of the screen. Ouch !

It is quite common that one would get their pc infected by trojan and viruses through those removeable thumb drive. Anti-virus do perform instant scan when thumb drive is plugged in, but still some of them could be escape.
